Frequently AskedQuestions

Answers to common questions about subtitling, voice-over, multimedia and social media translation

Subtitles can be prepared for corporate and promotional videos, advertisements, training and e-learning content, webinars, interviews, product demos, YouTube videos and social media content. The source language, target languages, target audience, publishing platform and delivery format are defined at the outset. If accessible subtitles containing non-speech sounds and speaker identification—closed captions or SDH—are required, this must be specified separately in the project scope.

Yes. If no script is available for the source video or audio recording, transcription can be included in the project scope. Audio quality, number of speakers, accents, subject specialisation and recording duration are assessed first. It is determined in advance whether the speech should be transcribed verbatim or as an edited transcript, and whether speaker labels and time codes are required. Unclear sections are not completed by guesswork; they are flagged for confirmation. If a script is provided, it is checked against the recording.

Formats such as SRT, VTT, ASS, SBV and TTML can be considered according to the publishing platform and the project’s technical requirements. An editable standalone subtitle file and subtitles burned into the video are different delivery formats. The format supported by the platform, language, character encoding, time codes and any styling requirements are clarified at the start of the project. If video production or subtitle embedding is requested, the output resolution, file type and scope are specified separately.

Yes. Subtitle in and out timecodes can be adjusted to the video or audio recording. Speech flow, scene changes, display duration and readability are considered together. Existing time-coded files can also be reviewed and adapted. If the recording or edit changes, the time codes may need to be reviewed again. The video version and delivery or publishing format to be used for the final check are defined at the outset.

Yes. Line length, line breaks, on-screen duration, reading speed, language and target audience are considered together. Character and line limits are set according to the technical guidelines provided by the publishing platform or the client; the same figures are not applied automatically to every project. The text may be condensed while preserving its meaning and terminology. Automatically generated subtitles are also corrected against the recording, and the final video is reviewed where included in the agreed scope.

Voice-over is the recording of a translated or adapted script and can be used for narration, promotional content, training or other audiovisual content. In dubbing, the target-language dialogue is adapted and recorded to match the duration of the on-screen speech and, where requested, the speakers’ lip movements. Script translation, timing adaptation, voice talent, recording, audio editing and final video delivery are separate stages. The stages included in the service are clarified during the quotation process.

Voice talent selection can be planned according to the target language, accent, brand voice, intended use and availability. The desired vocal qualities, sample recording or demo review, and approval process are defined at the outset. Before recording, the script, pronunciation guide, proper names and timing expectations are provided. Studio use, recording, usage terms, revisions and the final delivery scope are clarified in the quotation; the availability of a particular voice artist is confirmed separately.

Yes. Subtitles for Instagram, Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn and other publishing channels can be adapted to the target language and content type. Vertical, square or horizontal formats, text placement, readability, other on-screen text and the platform interface are considered together. Whether burned-in subtitles or a separate file are required is determined in advance. If the adaptation of titles, descriptions, CTAs and hashtags or video editing is requested, these services are scoped separately.

Client materials are handled only for the purposes and within the authorisation required to provide the service. Necessary information is shared with those involved in the translation and review process; where notarisation or other official procedures are required, the scope of disclosure is determined accordingly. Retention and personal data processing is managed in line with the relevant obligations. You may share any specific confidentiality requirements before work begins. For unpublished video, audio, scripts and campaign files, access, team and studio access, retention and delivery conditions are clarified at the outset. A confidentiality agreement tailored to the parties’ requirements can also be signed for corporate projects. The information to be protected, sharing permissions, subcontractor obligations and retention conditions are agreed in advance. If the client has its own agreement template, it may be submitted for review. Completing the agreement before translation begins helps ensure that the scope of work and confidentiality expectations are clear.

The recording duration, language pair and number of languages, audio quality, number of speakers, availability of a script or need for transcription, time-coding, and the scope of subtitling, voice-over or dubbing are assessed together. Voice talent, studio use, production, video editing, delivery format, urgency and revisions may affect the total price and schedule. Once the source file or sample recording has been reviewed, the included services, total fee, delivery date and revision plan are provided in writing. Any new edit or script change is reconfirmed together with its impact on scope and schedule.
