Common questions about the sworn translation process
In Türkiye, a sworn translation is a translation prepared and signed by a translator who has taken an oath before a notary public for the relevant language. The translator’s signature and stamp certify that the translation corresponds to the source document. Depending on its intended use, the document may also require notarisation or another form of authentication. At Aspendos Tercüme, we plan the required service according to the requirements of the institution to which you will submit the document.
Sworn translation may be requested for documents such as passports, birth and marriage certificates, criminal record certificates, diplomas, transcripts, powers of attorney, court decisions and company documents. The requirement depends more on the application and the receiving institution than on the document type itself. When you send us the document and explain its intended use, we can assess the need for sworn translation, notarisation and any other authentication procedures together.
Whether the original document is required depends on the document type, the notary public’s practice and the requirements of the receiving institution. A preliminary review and translation preparation can be carried out using a legible scan or photograph. However, this does not remove any requirement to present the original document. We clarify whether the original or a certified copy is required before the process begins.
The delivery time varies according to the language, text length, level of expertise required, file quality and the need for official certification. Short standard documents may be prepared more quickly, while lengthy or technical files require more time. We confirm the delivery date after reviewing the document and defining the scope. The calculation also takes account of revision and any required certification stages.

A sworn translator is a person whose language proficiency has been assessed by a notary public and who has taken an oath to translate accurately and completely in the relevant language. For notarial procedures, the translator’s oath record must be held by the relevant notary office. Additional authorisation requirements may apply to other official procedures, such as those carried out at land registry offices or courts. The translator is therefore selected according to both the language and the procedure involved.
A sworn translation is signed and stamped by the sworn translator. A notarised translation is additionally certified by a notary public. Notarial certification does not mean that the notary retranslates the document or checks it linguistically. The requirements of the receiving institution determine which type of translation will be sufficient.
The translation price is calculated according to the language pair, text volume, field of expertise, file legibility, delivery time and formatting requirements. Sworn translation, notarisation and additional services may also affect the scope. After reviewing your document, we prepare a quotation specifying which charges are included. General prices given without seeing the document may not constitute a final quotation.
